Crafting Strategy
Crafting is for embellishments and guaranteed slot control, not crest savings. Know when to craft and where to spend your Sparks.
The Real Talk on Crafting
Crafted items cost 80 Myth Dawncrests and cap at 5/6 (285). A dropped Myth item reaches 6/6 (289) for the same or fewer crests. Crafting is not crest efficient. If you haven't already, read the Dawncrest Spending Guide for the full breakdown.
So why craft at all? Two reasons: embellishments and guaranteed slot control. You pick exactly which slot gets a Mythic-level item, and you can attach an embellishment to it. That's the value.
When to Craft
Crafting is an on-demand power spike. Just because you have Sparks doesn't mean you should use them instantly.
- Embellishment crafts (Veteran, no Sparks): Do these early. 80 Veteran Dawncrests each, craft in low-value slots like bracers or cloak. The embellishment effect matters, the slot doesn't.
- Spark crafts (Mythic): Hold until you need the power. If you're hitting a wall on progression, craft. If you can greed and wait for drops, do it.
Where to Spend Sparks
Read Slot Strength and Item Budget first. The short version: not all slots are equal. Crafting a bracer at Mythic level when you could craft a weapon is leaving power on the table.
The exact priority depends heavily on your class and spec. Dual wield vs 2H, melee vs caster, and which embellishments your spec wants all change the answer. Check your class Discord for spec-specific crafting advice.
That said, some universal principles:
- High-budget slots give more stats than low-budget slots. Weapons, helm, chest, and legs are where crafting has the most impact. See the slot strength guide.
- Weapon crafting is tempting but not always correct. A crafted Mythic weapon is a huge power spike, but it caps at 285 and costs 4 Sparks for a 2H (2 for 1H). If you can get a Mythic weapon from raid or vault and upgrade it to 289 instead, crafting 2 armor pieces with embellishments may give you more total power. This varies heavily by spec.
- Don't Mythic-craft a slot just for an embellishment. If you only need the embellishment effect, craft it at Veteran level in a weak slot and save your Sparks for actual power.
The bracer trap: Historically, many BiS lists show bracers as a crafting slot because that's where you end up in full endgame gear. During progression, crafting bracers at Mythic level is a waste of Sparks. Craft your embellishment bracers at Veteran and spend Sparks where the power is. As of early Season 1, most gear guides haven't settled on final recommendations yet.
The Bottom Line
Craft for embellishments and power spikes, not crest savings. Hold Sparks until you need them. Spend them on high-value slots. Check your class Discord for the spec-specific details.
